2014 Toyota Highlander

2014 Toyota Highlander: The new 2014 Toyota Highlander arrived at the New York auto show Wednesday, and from the grille to the flanks, it's obvious Toyota designers settled on the current Sequoia for design inspiration. That's not a bad thing: The large Toyota doesn't break any ground but it's an attractive interpretation of the brand's big-truck aesthetic. Translating it to the smaller Highlander adds beef to the crossover while keeping it in the family.

Engine choices don't deviate from the current Highlander lineup: Conventional gasoline powertrains remain a 2.7-liter four-cylinder or 3.5-liter V6 teamed to a six-speed automatic, or the Highlander Hybrid with the 3.5-liter V6 plus an electric motor. Toyota says the V6 will have improved fuel economy due to transmission changes, but no specifics have yet been offered. Front-drive and all-wheel-drive models will be available.
